Outspoken oil billionaire T. Boone Pickenswowed the hundreds of attendees at yesterday"s General Session meeting atthe 2008 Alternative Fuels and Vehicles Conference and Expo in Las Vegas.Joined on stage by Andrew Littlefair, president and CEO of Clean EnergyFuels Corporation, Pickens delivered a keynote presentation that wasinsightful, humorous and highly provocative.

Pickens talked about America’s urgent need to get away fromforeign oil and the sending of $600 billion to "A few friends and a hell of a bunch of enemies." and the opportunity that exists in turning to naturalgas to solve the country’s immediate gasoline crisis. Pickens pointedout natural gas’ benefits of being substantially lower in harmfulemissions than gasoline, its plentiful supply, and its significantly lowercost to consumers.

Pickens predicted that gasoline prices will continue to rise and thatdiesel fuel will never again be cheaper than gasoline.

Pickens was highly critical of the political pandering that is going onwith the three current presidential candidates, and by the irresponsibleremarks made by them to voters (especially by Hillary Clinton, that shewill reduce the price of gasoline to $60 per barrel).

Pickens also talked about the need to make use of wind and solar power,and his own company’s recent purchase of four thousand GeneralElectric wind generators that are expected to produce 4,000 megawatts ofelectricity (“equivalent to two nuclear generators”).

At the conclusion of his and Littlefair’s formal onstagepresentation, Pickens joined about a dozens journalists in an impromptu Q&Asession that yielded additional salacious comments and humorousobservations.

The Alternative Fuels and Vehicles Conference and Expo is anannual event hosted by the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute, which isbased in Las Vegas, Nevada.
