DEARBORN, Mich., April 1, 2008 – Ford Motor Company hassignificantly improved its Service Part Limited Warranty coverage on bothnew and remanufactured gas engine and transmission assemblies, increasingthe terms from 3-years/75,000 miles to 3-years/100,000 miles, effectiveApril 1, 2008.

This warranty enhancement not only matches the terms ofcompetitive automakers in the aftermarket industry, but it exceeds theircoverage in a significant way,” said Steve Lopez, Ford’stransmission product marketing manager. “Ford has no restrictions onthe application of the vehicle, whether it is a private use, commercialapplication or municipality.”

The new warranty terms apply only to gas engines and transmissionassemblies sold on or after April 1, 2008. Warranty coverage on Ford andMotorcraft® remanufactured transmissions and gas engines installed by thedealer or installer begins on the date of sale from the Ford, Lincoln orMercury dealership or a Ford factory-authorized powertrain distributor. Newassemblies still need to be registered with Ford in order to obtain thefull coverage of the warranty enhancement.

The warranty coverage upgrade does not affect the diesel enginewarranty, which remains 2-years/unlimited miles for Complete Diesel Engineand Long Block Assemblies.

The improved warranty coverage will not result in a price increase onassemblies.

“The new 100,000-mile warranty component combined withFord’s quality, competitive pricing, outstanding availability, andno-risk core policy, provides a significant competitive advantage in thepowertrain marketplace,” said Lopez.

2009 Civic Sedan review
The Civic’s base price of $15,505 compares favorably with its direct competitor, the Toyota Corolla ($15,350), the outgoing Mazda 3 i Sport ($15,360), and Hyundai Elantra GLS ($14,120). Fuel economy, ever important for buyers in this segment, is a frugal 26 city, 34 highway mpg. Notably, both the Ford Focus (24/35) and Chevrolet Cobalt XFE (25/37) achieve better highway mileage. The Cobalt is tops in its class for horsepower, too, with 155. The Civic’s 1.8L engine makes 140 hp.
