45 Sponsors Support H.R. 2694

BETHESDA, Md., April 10, 2008; Following theannouncement of two new sponsors last week, the Motor Vehicle Owners" Rightto Repair Act (HR 2694) gained three more supporters this week; it wasannounced today by Kathleen Schmatz, president and CEO of the AutomotiveAftermarket Industry Association (AAIA). Reps. Richard Neal (D-MA), CarolShea (D-NH) and Ike Skelton (D-MO) have joined a growing list of the bill"ssponsors.

"We want to thank Reps. Neal, Shea and Skelton for supporting thisimportant piece of legislation," said Schmatz. "The growing momentum ofsupport for the Right to Repair Act demonstrates the commitment by manymembers of Congress to ensuring that their constituents, and not the largecar companies, retain the choice of where to have their vehicle servicedand repaired."

Because vehicles are becoming increasingly sophisticated with virtuallyevery system either monitored or controlled by computers, servicing thesevehicle systems to keep them in safe working condition requires readyaccess to complete and accurate information from the automobile companies. TheMotor Vehicle Owners" Right to Repair Act (HR 2694) was introduced inCongress to ensure that automobile owners and their trusted repair shops have thesame access to safety alerts and repair information as the franchised newcar dealer network.

About Right to Repair:

The Right to Repair Act, which was introduced by Rep. Edolphus Towns(D-NY), would require automobile companies to make the same service informationand tools capabilities available to independent repair shops that theyprovide their to their franchised dealer networks. The legislation furtherprovides automobile companies with strong protections for their trade secretsunless that information is provided to the franchised new automobile dealers. Thebill clarifies the responsibilities of the Federal Trade Commission inenforcing the bill"s requirements. For more information about the Right toRepair Act, visit www.righttorepair.org.

2009 Civic Sedan review
The Civic’s base price of $15,505 compares favorably with its direct competitor, the Toyota Corolla ($15,350), the outgoing Mazda 3 i Sport ($15,360), and Hyundai Elantra GLS ($14,120). Fuel economy, ever important for buyers in this segment, is a frugal 26 city, 34 highway mpg. Notably, both the Ford Focus (24/35) and Chevrolet Cobalt XFE (25/37) achieve better highway mileage. The Cobalt is tops in its class for horsepower, too, with 155. The Civic’s 1.8L engine makes 140 hp.
