Seat to promote research in light sciences

MARTORELL, SPAIN - Seat’s corporate headquarters atMartorell today provided the backdrop for the signing of an agreement aimedat promoting research and teaching of excellence in the fields of opticaland photonic technologies; SEAT was represented by its Vice-President forHuman Resources Ramón Paredes, and the Institute of Photonic Sciences(IFCO) by Lluís Torner.

The agreement is designed to further research and teaching as well asstimulate industry in the fields of light science and all disciplines wherephotonics have an impact, such as optoelectronics and opticalnanotechnologies, information technologies, health and life sciences,quantum information technologies and laser systems.

During the signing event, Ramón Paredes underscored the importance of anagreement “that is yet another example of the company’scommitment to specialised qualifying and training for its workforce as areal driving force to adapt to the on-going rapid changes being experiencedin the automobile sector. Good training is the basis for professionaldevelopment, not only of people, but also of corporations”.

The agreement provides for SEAT becoming a “member” of theIFCO’s Business Collaboration Programme. The Photonic ScienceInstitute is a foundation set up by the Catalan Government (Generalitat)together with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia so as to provide aglobal-reach response to the needs of research and teaching at doctoratelevel.

The Institute also covers the industrial implementation and promotion ofspin-off companies set up to develop ideas arising from research carriedout by researchers and students.

2010 NEW Bugatti 16 C Galibier

2011 NEW Mercedes E-Class Cabrio with AMG Package

The Civic’s base price of $15,505 compares favorably with its direct competitor, the Toyota Corolla ($15,350), the outgoing Mazda 3 i Sport ($15,360), and Hyundai Elantra GLS ($14,120). Fuel economy, ever important for buyers in this segment, is a frugal 26 city, 34 highway mpg. Notably, both the Ford Focus (24/35) and Chevrolet Cobalt XFE (25/37) achieve better highway mileage. The Cobalt is tops in its class for horsepower, too, with 155. The Civic’s 1.8L engine makes 140 hp.
