Mitsubishi Motors Transfers Production of SUV for PSA Peugeot Citroen

Car News / Theautochannel.com

Tokyo, Japan, Mar 27, 2008; Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced thatit has decided to transfer production of all EU-bound SUVs it supplies toPSA Peugeot Citroen from its Mizushima Plant (Kurashiki, OkayamaPrefecture), where they are currently built, to its European productionhub, Netherlands Car B.V. ("NedCar", Born, The Netherlands).

The transfer will be effective as of January 2009.

This decision was driven by MMC"s desire to optimize its productioncapacities according to demand for each model, minimizing missed salesopportunities.

A 100% Mitsubishi Motors facility, NedCar currently builds the EuropeanColt family of compact cars. From August 2008, NedCar will add productionof the Outlander SUV.

In parallel, production of the non EU-bound PSA Peugeot Citroen SUVswill be transferred to MMC"s Nagoya Plant (Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture),starting November 2008.

2009 Civic Sedan review
The Civic’s base price of $15,505 compares favorably with its direct competitor, the Toyota Corolla ($15,350), the outgoing Mazda 3 i Sport ($15,360), and Hyundai Elantra GLS ($14,120). Fuel economy, ever important for buyers in this segment, is a frugal 26 city, 34 highway mpg. Notably, both the Ford Focus (24/35) and Chevrolet Cobalt XFE (25/37) achieve better highway mileage. The Cobalt is tops in its class for horsepower, too, with 155. The Civic’s 1.8L engine makes 140 hp.
