Recognized as the best family sedan in 2006, the 2007 Hyundai Sonata is remarked as the best in class midsize. Highly competitive the new 2007 hyundai quickly set the benchmark for its value and standard safety technology in the midsize segment.
Corporate emphasis and focus stays firmly on quality, meaningful technology including all-new ngines and suspension, increased safety and instinctive satisfaction for driver and passengers alike.
Since its introduction in the Korean market in 1985, Sonata has always reigned as one of Hyundai’s most important models. Traditionally, it has been the model that has introduced new technology to the range. The new Sonata carries on this tradition by offering up-rated quality throughout and the innovative Active Geometry Control Suspension (AGCS) System due to be
introduced later in 2005.
As the standard bearer for Hyundai saloons in Europe and North America, Sonata’s high engineering standards and build quality have drawn plaudits. Most recently, it was named as best in its segment in the 2004 Initial Quality Survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates. The newest Sonata which is making its world debut at the Paris Motor Show has been designed and engineered to extend a 19-year strong tradition of steadily elevating the levels of quality and customer satisfaction. This is reflected by a target of 230,000 unit sales for 2005.
Designed to deliver higher levels of comfort, confidence and refinement in all categories, the new Sonata introduces two all-new engines, a 3.3-litre DOHC V-6 and a 2.4-litre DOHC in-line four. For the 2006 model year, a new 2.0 CRDi diesel unit will be added to the options list. In addition, the new Sonata’s handling, ride and NVH have received meticulous attention, and interior space has been increased. For greater peace of mind, Sonata benefits from a comprehensively engineered program of active and passive safety and includes standard front, side and dual curtain airbags with ESP remaining optional.
The new generation Sonata is 55mm longer than the previous model, with its wheelbase extended by 30mm. This slight increase of size has been a major factor in creating a generously roomy interior. Front leg room has been increased by 10mm and rear by 30mm, with proportional gains (22mm front and 15mm rear) to headroom. The luggage capacity has also been increased to a highly desirable 462 litres.
Displaying high levels of European influence, the design of the new Sonata will certainly not disappoint any one looking for both elegance and practicality. Among the noteworthy features are optional 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts on the V-6, tilt and telescopic steering column, power/tilt sliding sunroof, triple spray windscreen washers, MP3 capable in-dash 6 CD changer, steering wheel audio control, automatic climate control, air-quality control system, wind screen de-icing and a manual rear sunblind.
The result is a confident, effortless, and secure performance saloon built to take on the best from Europe and Japan in European and world markets.

The new-for-2006 Hyundai Sonata quickly set the benchmark for value and standard safety technology in the midsize segment. Upon its introduction last year, the 2006 Sonata beat Honda Accord and Toyota Camry to take first place in an Edmunds.com Inside Line comparison test. Edmunds.com reported, “In the end, it wasn’t even close…in the areas of performance and features, the Hyundai won in a landslide …Bottom Line: With the 2006 Sonata, Hyundai convincingly beats the long-standing class leaders in nearly every important category.” In addition, MotorWeek recognized the Hyundai Sonata as the Best Family Sedan in its 2006 “Drivers’ Choice Award”, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance named it a “Best in Class” midsize, Consumers Digest gave it a “Best Buy” award, and Popular Mechanics awarded it its first-ever “Safety Excellence” award for its leadership in the application of standard safety technologies like ESC. Also very impressive is how well Sonata scored right out of the gate in the 2006 Initial Quality Study issued by J.D. Power and Associates ranking third in the highly competitive midsize car segment.
Sonata’s impressive trophy case is complemented by its combination of striking style, an extensive list of standard features, and the growing strength of Hyundai’s brand, which now appeals to a broader range of customers than ever before. Drawing new customers to the brand is entirely by design, as Hyundai began the new Sonata program by surveying American consumers at clinics about their likes and dislikes, wants, needs and preferences for midsize sedans. This consumer-focus has succeeded in propelling Sonata to a 61 percent sales increase in 2006. It now ranks as the eight best-selling car in the country, and is cross-shopped most frequently against the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord – the two best-selling cars in the U.S.
UNSURPASSED ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SAFETY
The Hyundai Sonata has earned the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) top five-star crash test rating for front and side impacts. This accomplishment was made possible by Sonata’s standard-setting active and passive safety technology. Every Sonata has ESC with Traction Control as standard equipment, along with an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and four-wheel disc brakes. This is important because the NHTSA has reported that ESC results in 35 percent fewer single-vehicle crashes and 30 percent fewer single-vehicle fatalities in passenger cars.
In the event that a crash is unavoidable, the Sonata features six airbags—including dual front, front seat-mounted side-impact, and front and rear side curtain airbags—along with active front-seat head restraints. Other passive safety features include shingle-style rear-seat head restraints for improved visibility, three-point seatbelts for all seating positions, front-seat seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters, and a rear-seat Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system for child seats.
