Smart find a solution of traveling 15.000 kilometers with only 15 refuels. This is possible with the new ForTwo CDi unveiled today. It has a fuel consumption of just 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers (NEDC) and emissions of 88 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer; this is why the new ForTwo CDi is the most economical production car worldwide. If you want to travel from central Berlin to Paris without refueling, the new ForTwo is the answer. A full tank of fuel costs around 38.00 euro and 33 liters of fuel will take the 45 bhp two-door car approximately 1,000 kilometers.

The Smart engineers took the old cdi engine, improved it and equipped it for the future. The power and torque have each increased by ten percent, whilst the fuel consumption has decreased by around 13 percent. In numbers this means a maximum output of 45 bhp and a peak torque of 81 lbs-ft, delivers between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm. The new smart ForTwo cdi thus offers a combination of agility, economy and environmental compatibility that is unique in this class and that adds up to all-round driving fun.

Smart Fortwo CDi

The ForTwo CDi is powered by the world’s smallest direct-injection diesel engine; but even if it’s small, the engine uses technology that previously was only found in larger capacity engines. For example the latest generation common-rail direct injection which builds up high injection pressure of up to 1,600 bar (previously: 1,350 bar) even at low revs, and injects the fuel into the combustion chambers with newly developed six-hole injectors, enabling an even more efficient combustion process.

A turbo-charger, charge-air cooling, electrically controlled and cooled exhaust gas recirculation, hydraulic compensation of valve clearance and a state-of-the-art light alloy construction are further features that identify the cdi engine as a high-tech package.

2009 Civic Sedan review
The Civic’s base price of $15,505 compares favorably with its direct competitor, the Toyota Corolla ($15,350), the outgoing Mazda 3 i Sport ($15,360), and Hyundai Elantra GLS ($14,120). Fuel economy, ever important for buyers in this segment, is a frugal 26 city, 34 highway mpg. Notably, both the Ford Focus (24/35) and Chevrolet Cobalt XFE (25/37) achieve better highway mileage. The Cobalt is tops in its class for horsepower, too, with 155. The Civic’s 1.8L engine makes 140 hp.
